ANNAPOLIS TO HOST 2008 OPTIMIST TEAM TRIALS 195 of USA's Top Junior Sailors to Compete in Annapolis This Weekend Annapolis, MD (April 29) - This will be quite a busy weekend in Annapolis. In addition to the various festivities at City Dock surrounding the Maryland Maritime Heritage Festival, visitors will notice lots of very small sailboats, 7 1/2 foot race boats called Optimist Dinghies - or "Opti's" for short - heading in and out of Annapolis Harbor to the mouth of the Severn River. While the boats may be quite small, the size of the fleet is quite large - with 195 children from all over the United States racing over four days in the most competitive annual junior sailing regatta in the country. |

Congressional CupThe 20th year of on-water umpiring - where it started | Umpires at work in the Congressional Cup
| | LONG BEACH, Calif.---Before Dave Perry could claim the second of his consecutive Congressional Cup championships in 1984 he had to suffer an agonizing couple of hours waging his case against two-time champion Dick Deaver in the protest room and then forlornly pacing under a full moon outside the Long Beach Yacht Club while the jury made up its mind. | |
